This house was very close to being condemned. The buckled foundation wall must have upset the engineer and building inspector. That was substantial block and concrete benching . I hope the homeowners are still in the house raising their children.

Seems like home inspection is somewhat of a shady business. It must be the same irregardless where you live. Are these so called "home inspectors" held accountable for stealing hard earned money from people? How can the home buyer protect against these scam artists? Do "we" have to wait in line for Mike Holmes to come? Which is what "we" , the home buyer, would prefer. 1st option. You guys n gals always do great work! Period!

How can you, as a builder and home inspector, have a clear conscience by defrauding people like this and then sleep peacefully knowing that people are going to live in the house, I hope that they will one day be held accountable for the deception. Unbelievable that this is still happening in 2024 despite the many strict building regulations. What trouble these people would have been in if they had not been in this program and had had to pay all the costs themselves. There will come a day when the renovator of this house and the home inspector will have to answer to God himself

It probably would have been easier to just demolish the house and start fresh.

When I went home shopping, I narrowed it down to three choices then I did a thorough personal home inspection using a guide. Based on that I removed one from my list. With a guide, I found things I never normally would have even thought to look at. I then requested a professional home inspection for my main choice. Every home buyer should do this IMO.

In the second episode Homes created work that didn’t need to be done to install a drain that didn’t need to be there. It’s called a “doghouse” entrance. That’s where you build a small closed in structure over the stair case with the door at grade to a pad. Which means the weeping tile system would have been in a climate controlled area under the doorway inside the dog house. Now you aren’t tearing up the floor in the basement to install a pump and plumbing The door house with a brick cladding would have been a 3 days build. Only thing that works better thanks a drainage system is not having a tub below grade to start with.

Can you imagine not catching these problems 15 years down the road?

Canada needs much higher standards for their builders and inspectors 🤦‍♀️🙄

We see this over and over and over where the real-estate agency knows and recommends the inspector. Of course the inspection is going to pass, the inspector wants his cut for giving it a good result culminating in a sale.

Home Inspectors should be held liable for everything they can see that is not in the inspection report... The cold room on this house would be a red flag the inspector now has to fix $$$

Imagine the other potential buyers of that home seeing what they luckily avoided buying

Don't know if it's due to trademarks or copywrites, but I'm a bit disappointed that Martin didn't get to talk about the fact that he used PEX plumbing in the garage installation. The reason he used that product is because it is absolutely freeze-proof. It can freeze solid and not leak afterward, making it the perfect product for areas of the home that are subject to cold conditions. I plumbed my bunkhouse with PEX and couldn't be happier. The "Shark-Bite" connectors are amazing if you're interfacing with existing plumbing, whether copper or PVC.
